Red flagging is a decision support approach used in clinical reasoning to highlight salient features of a health condition that clinicians may miss.
More specifically, clinical red flagging is the structured identification of signs, symptoms, risk factors, or contextual cues that may indicate serious, time-critical, or atypical disease and therefore require urgent escalation, further investigation, or reconsideration of the working diagnosis.
I’ve developed a lot of red flag tools in the past and now I’m making sure that people have access to them.
